Oh man I cannot believe it's June already! Or, time flies when you're having fun.

Also, I never know from day to day what to post. Then we get super busy, have a lot of fun in the real world, aaaaand I never update my blog. Ah well, I guess that means we're living life, right? So here's the past month in pictures and captions!

First there was Franklin's Touch-a-Truck, which we've been waiting for for months. It is the simplest, best thing for young kids ever!

And for those adults who have always wanted to ride on the back of a (clean) garbage truck

We got a free, teal leather couch. WHAT WHAT!

Whit found new and interesting sleep positions...

My family came to visit! Which involved the Tennessee Renaissance Faire...

King Whitman and his silly Big Daddy

Fried Oreos! Mmmmmm....droooool

Checking out the falcons and owls with Mimi and Aunt Jo

Finally! Someone to draw the elusive cat-truck he's been asking for.
 And the Nashville Zoo...

Cousins!

This is a new exhibit where you can walk around with the kangaroos. This is the cropped picture

Here it is uncropped.

Someone was exhausted!

And Cousin Logan was not! I'm pretty sure he didn't sleep the entire visit!

My sister Shanna, her son Logan and my dog Foster. Shanna is Foster's favorite person for some reason.
Then Whit got instantly ill the next day. Spiked a 102 fever out of nowhere and I had to strip him down and drive home. Btw, he's wearing a diaper, you just can't really see it.

So I was in a show. The Female Odd Couple at the Old School Theatre in Spring Hill. And being in a show means you frequent the local thrift shops a lot. Which lead me to this horrifying number:

 And this sweet deal!

Random shot of new hurr cut and holy cow is it getting long!

Put the kiddo to work making me some more art...

Entered Whit in Publix's cute kid contest for bedhead. If you'd like to send us a vote, I'd greatly appreciate it!

Ran the Fired Up n Fit obstacle-5k for a local charity with my friend, Brandy. It was a lot of fun: logs over creeks, muddy trenches, running through fire. Yesss!

So that show I was in? It was set in the '80s, so here was my nightly hair prep:

And on the second night, we had a big storm come through and the power went out. So what do we do? Take a page from my old community college and turn the flashlights cell phones on the stage. The whole cast was handing me their cell phones, then the audience started doing the same. So I put them on the edge like old-timey footlights. Live theatre, folks! It's exhilarating!

The view from the audience.
Whit's been doing better and better with his letters every day.

And is already interested in baseball, much to my husband's delight.

Why yes, that is a kid's fireman's helmet.
And has been helping me with some shelves I'm building...

Child labor, ftw!
One of our gymnastics classes. The foam pit is our favorite. I mean, HIS favorite, ummm, yeahhh.

And here's where I promise I'll be a better poster, but we both know it's not likely. So we just smile and nod and say see you then!

52 Weeks: Week 9

Obviously most of my pictures are about my new nephew, Thor... ahem, I mean Logan! It's been cold and snowing here again last week, so Whit and I occupied ourselves with homemade toys and around the house stuff. But then Tuesday I got the news that my sister would be induced the next morning. So I drove five and half hours by myself early Wednesday and got to Meridian just in time to say a quick hello to my sis and then things got a little scary.

She started throwing up (and apparently had done so all day) which started upsetting the baby, his heart rate got down in the 50's. So the nurses kicked all of us out and started calling the doctor to do an emergency c-section. They took her back to surgery so fast that her poor husband didn't get to go back before Logan was born! But thankfully, baby and mom were both fine. And boy is he a cutie! And just as aware as Whit was when he was born. Logan has already looked me dead in the eyes a couple of times. Of course, I cried. All these poor boys around such weepy women!

Oh it was wonderful being with my sister and her new little family for a few hours. I wish I could have stayed longer, but motherhood and work called and I had to come back home.

Oh I still want to cry and how precious little Logan is and how cute they all are together!

"Mommy's Little Monster" Baby Shower

Last weekend was my first baby shower, thrown by my fabulous sister, Shanna, and fabulous friend, Summer. It even ended up being appropriate since it was the day before Mother's Day. We all had a fantastic time and I was thrilled, seeing as I've never been to a baby shower in my life! I didn't know what to expect, but I've heard horror stories of fake pooped-in diapers, cakes resembling pregnant torsos or, worse, fetuses! Thankfully, they are just as horrified by that stuff as me and everything was awesome.

I had mentioned a while back that I was digging a kind of monster theme, and they hit the ground running with it. I've been having a hard time finding monster things that weren't just wall art, but they really did well and had to get creative. And Shan and Summer are nothing if not creative! Just check out some of the pictures from the shower below...

Shanna's amazing diaper cake. I swear she needs to sell these, she's so good at it!

The monster cake (chocolate) with wedding cake eyeball cake pops.

A few of us decorating onesies and bibs. Shanna got really good at this and started making things for the less-crafty people to claim as their creations.

Summer signed some of her work.

A few of the monsters my mom crocheted for the bambino.

My friend, Amanda, who is almost exactly 4 weeks behind me. As you can see, we've already given up on real shoes. Though that could be just from living in the South, not necessarily being pregnant.

Then, after the shower and Shanna and I had spent Mother's Day with our mom, we + Summer headed back to Franklin to work on the nursery for a bit. I feel like we got a lot done, and it definitely looks like a room now! And then I think about that half-finished dresser in the shed (grrr). But whatever, it was nice just having girly company around for once!

Working on putting together the lethal crib.

Shan putting up the mobile, which require some impressive knotting skills.

There were definitely some hang ups putting things together. The crib, for instance, we could not figure out how to put together. It's 30 years old, so the instructions are long gone. But I had an inkling of how it should work, but there were these holes that looked filled in for some reason. Summer and Ben started fiddling with them, turns out dirt daubers had been to work there and when they cleared out the holes our came some 10-year old bug pieces. Ben may have freaked out a bit (I'm definitely the bug-slayer of the house). But we got it all cleaned up and it's fine, you know aside from being the Crib of Death. Whilst googling assembly instructions for it, all I could find were articles exclaiming that this crib would eat our children, pets, and anyone unlucky enough to not understand how to operate the drop side feature. Oh come on, internet, this crib has already housed three kids, I think we'll be fine.

Well, I'm off to start writing thank you notes. I swear to be a good person this time (and make up for my bridal showers) and write everyone a thank you!
